Key points
- Whether your operation took place in Switzerland or abroad, you can be followed up at the Centre.
- After obesity surgery, follow-up is planned for life, even when everything is going well. You can resume it at any time.
- If your weight goes back up or something worries you, you can ask for an opinion.
Surgery in Switzerland or abroad: you can be followed up at the Centre
Where possible, choose the centre where you had your operation, for continuity of follow-up; you can also come to the Centre for a second opinion. Whether your operation took place in Switzerland or in another country, you can contact the Centre to arrange your follow-up. Together, we review the operation you had, your health and your needs, without judging the path you have taken. If you have them, bring your operation report and your most recent test results. The appointments team will help you prepare for this first appointment.
Why keep up or resume follow-up?
The Swiss guidelines provide for regular, lifelong check-ups after any obesity surgery1: they help detect deficiencies, adjust your treatments and act early if your weight goes back up. How often you are seen at the Centre, vitamins and precautions are described on the Life and follow-up after surgery page; the warning signs that mean you should call straight away, and who to contact, are on the Hospital stay and return home page.
If your weight goes back up
Do not wait to talk about it. An assessment helps identify the causes and discuss the options, which are not all surgical: see Weight regain. Situations that call for a new assessment after an operation are described on our Revisional surgery: reassessing your situation after an operation page.
Are you considering an operation abroad?
Are you considering an operation abroad for financial reasons? In Switzerland, obesity surgery can be covered by basic health insurance (LAMal) when the required conditions are met. Before you decide, a consultation allows us to check your situation and explain how the costs may be covered in Switzerland.

What next?
You can request a follow-up appointment to review your situation. Your request is received by the Centre’s appointments team, who will organise the next steps with you.
